Mozy Drops Unlimited Backup Plans

Mozy, the top-rated online backup service at Online Backups Review.com, announced today that they are dropping their unlimited online backup plans.

For the first time since 2006, we’re adjusting the price of our MozyHome service. As part of this change, we’re replacing our Unlimited backup plan. The backup market has changed since we introduced MozyHome Unlimited in 2006, and our new plans are designed to help us continue serving the data protection needs of our customers.

Citing increasingly better quality capture devices and (people’s) growing tendency to use these devices almost reflexively, Mozy helps to justify the increase in price.

The vast majority of MozyHome customers’ storage comfortably fits within 50 GB; others needs are greater.

Mozy calls their new backup plans, No Fine Print Backup, referencing bandwidth and file-size limitations imposed by other unlimited online backup services.

The new MozyHome pricing will be $5.99 per month for 50GB on 1 computer, or $9.99 / month for 125 GB on up to 3 computers. Additional computers cost $2 / month, and chucks of 20GB of backup space add $2 / month onto the base cost. Try our Mozy price calculator to see how much Mozy will cost you.

Current monthly users will have until March 1, 2011 to fall into a new price scheme. Annual and biennial users will finish off their subscription unchanged, but will fall into the new pricing scheme upon renewal.

Our review of Mozy has been updated to reflect these changes. Backblaze and Carbonite both still offer unlimited online backups.
