MozyPro Mobile App

MozyPro logoMozyPro, the business online backup service by Mozy, is now supported in the Mozy mobile app.

When Mozy released their iPhone app back in March, it did not support Pro users. However, now that’s changed with both iOS and Android apps supporting MozyPro users.

MozyPro offers centralized billing and an administrative console for IT staff to monitor company-wide backups. MozyPro costs $3.95 per month per desktop, plus $0.50/GB per month. Servers are an additional $3 / month.

Locate Your Lost or Stolen Computer With Backblaze

BackblazeWe’ve read a few stories about people using their online backup service to locate their stolen computer, but Backblaze is the first company to now offer this as a service.

With Locate My Computer, Backblaze gives customers the ability to locate their computer on a map, get the ISP their computer is accessing, see the IP address it is using and easily view new files being backed up (those that are created by the thief).

Carbonite Files for IPO

CarboniteCarbonite, the online backup service based out of Boston, has filed for a $100 million IPO.

Carbonite generated revenue of $38.6 million in 2010 and $12.8 million during the first three months of this year. The company has been losing money as it spends heavily on advertising to add new subscribers. Carbonite lost about $26 million in 2010 and $5.3 million in the first quarter of 2011.

The company reported $11.1 million in cash at the end of March and had a working capital deficit of $18.2 million in the first quarter.

Livedrive to Increase Prices

Livedrive, one of the poorest rated online backup companies out there, will be raising their rates soon.

While looking into a completely unrelated event, this message was posted upon logging into Livedrive:

Please note: The prices for all of our products will be increasing shortly, but by signing up today you will get the current prices for the lifetime of your account.

While we have no idea what the pricing is going to be increased to, or when, it’s not surprising to see. Earlier this year, Mozy increased their prices, and recently, Carbonite raised their rates.

Currently, you can get Livedrive Backup for $6.95 per month, or Backup and Briefcase for $16.95 per month.

Android Photo Backup with SugarSync

SugarSync raised the bar yet again with their newest Android app, which automatically backs up your photos and syncs them to the other computers in your account.

Simply take a photo, and it’s synced to your SugarSync account and any other computers connected to that account.

Carbonite Raises Prices 7% to $59 Per Year

Carbonite has quietly increased their prices for unlimited online backup to $59 per year, up 7% from $54.95 previously.

2 years will cost you $109 ($54.50 annual cost), and 3 years $139 ($46.33 annual cost).

Mozy Android App

Shortly after releasing their iPhone app, Mozy has released their Android App for users to view and download files from their online backup to their mobile phone.

Only users in the US and Canada can access the app, and it currently only works with Mozy Home accounts (access to Pro accounts is being worked on). In addition, if you chose to create your own key (not password, but encryption key) then you can’t decrypt the files you download. (more…)

Mozy Online Backup iPhone App

Mozy today announced the public release of their iPhone App. With the app, users can now access their backed up files from their iPhone or iPod Touch.

Access the files you’ve backed up with Mozy online backup. Browse files in their original folder hierarchy or search for a specific file on the fly. Quickly view photo thumbnails and download the full file (high resolution) right to your device. Additionally you can email any of your backed up files to friends and family, and publish your photos to Facebook. A Mozy account is required. Free and paid accounts are available at Mozy.com.
