How To Spot a Livedrive Reseller

Thursday, January 19th, 2012

LivedriveThere are dozens of online backup services out there, and it seems we hear of 1-2 new ones each week. While we’re working on bringing more of them onto this site, we keep finding many of these companies are nothing more than resellers of Livedrive.

Livedrive has a Reseller program which allows anyone with $60 to start their own online backup service. But as we’ve seen with Backify, things don’t always end well.

When we saw Mowbe (really? Mowbe? Moby? Mozy… I see what you did there) launch recently, we immediately checked out their website. Right away, we knew it was a Livedrive Reseller. How?

New Mozy Restore Process

Friday, January 7th, 2011

Mozy has (finally) updated the process of restoring files via the web, and with it has greatly improved the ability to restore files via the web. Here’s our experience with it:

First, we logged in to the Mozy.com website, and then clicked on the “Restore Files” link next to the computer which we wanted to restore from. We were then presented with three options for restoring:

How to Backup SQL Server Online

Monday, July 12th, 2010

SQL ServerIf your company is running Microsoft SQL Server as its database server, and you’d like to get the databases backed-up online, without downtime, IBackup has the solution. Using existing capabilities of SQL Server’s API, and combining it with IBackup’s online backup scheduling software, you can have your database backups performed quickly, regularly, and reliably.

IBackup supports both full and transaction log style backups, so you’re in control of how backups are performed. In addition, when you set-up the backup schedule, you can be notified of the success or any failures of the backup.

This month only, you can get double the storage space when you sign-up, so a 35GB Enhanced Backup Plan, which supports SQL Server backups, now gives you 70GB of space, for $34.95 per month.

To get started, sign-up for IBackup, then download the Advanced Backup Plug-in.

GladinetGladinet has a solution to backup your Google Docs to virtually any location in the cloud, including Amazon S3, EMC Atmos, and Box.net, using their Cloud Desktop backup software. It’s easy to use: just enter your Google Docs account information, choose a backup location, and then specify how often you want the backups to be done.

Backup Google Docs

Working with Google Docs makes a lot of sense: you can access your files from any Internet enabled device, and you don’t have to back anything up because the files are not on your local computer. But as we’ve seen before, cloud-based storage isn’t immune to disaster.

Restore a Previous Version of a File with Mozy

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

Restoring a previous version of a file with Mozy is easy. First, navigate to the file on your computer and right-click, then choose Restore Previous Version (more…)
