CrashPlan Giveaway

Friday, March 1st, 2013

CrashPlanCrashPlan is the online backup service that I personally use, and have 240 GB backed up with it (both to a USB drive, and to the Cloud). It’s a powerful system, but can be overwhelming for some.

Joe Kissell literally wrote the book on CrashPlan, “Take Control of CrashPlan Backups“.

Covering everything from the basics of CrashPlan to using the mobile apps, Kissell shows you how to get the most out of your CrashPlan subscription.

Take Control of CrashPlan BackupsIf you don’t have a CrashPlan subscription, here’s your chance to win one! Enter using the form below, and you might win our grand prize: a 1-year CrashPlan+ subscription* and Joe Kissell’s book. 2 other winners will be chosen to also receive copies of “Take Control of CrashPlan Backups”

The contest runs March 1 – 18 (noon ET). Read the official rules, or just enter now! (more…)

Friday, April 29th, 2011

While doing some “research” I came across a couple of Dilbert cartoons regarding backups:

IDrive Cancels Contest

Thursday, March 18th, 2010

Crying BabyJust two days after announcing a huge iPad giveaway, IDrive pulled the plug on their contest early this morning:

The rules to enter the contest were quite simple:

sign up for an IDrive Online Backup account (either a 2GB free account or a paid account), download the IDrive Online Backup software and Login. This will automatically schedule backup of your critical data, which you can customize. You must be 21 years of age and above to be eligible. Proof of age will be required before receiving prizes. ONE ENTRY PER PERSON. US RESIDENTS ONLY.

What doesn’t make sense is how IDrive determined “limited interest” in a contest where the only way to enter was to create an account. Perhaps they didn’t see a dramatic increase in customer sign-ups, like they expected? Or maybe the first two winners didn’t even know they entered a contest when they installed IDrive?

Whatever the case, IDrive throws a number of contests, but this isn’t the first time one of theirs ended ugly. Hopefully they’ve learned a few things, and we’ll see a revised contest from them soon.
