Windows 7 Online Backup

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Windows 7With last week’s release of Windows 7, one of the common questions is whether your online backup service is compatible. Well a few of the online backup companies have spoken up:

  • Mozy says, we’ve done thorough testing on both Snow Leopard and Windows 7 and Mozy works well on both
  • Backblaze announces Backblaze fully supports the new OS
  • IDrive states, IDrive is fully compatible with Windows 7.

No comment yet from SugarSync, SpiderOak, or SafeCopy. Carbonite simply posted a broken link.

It seems like using an online backup service with Windows 7 isn’t going to be a big issue, so go ahead & upgrade to Windows 7 and know your online backup will work fine.

CA ISS+ 2010CA has announced their new Internet Security Suite Plus comes with 2GB of MozyHome online backups. CA ISS Plus 2010 helps provide peace of mind by making sure that important files are backed up; protecting photos, documents, music files, program data and PC settings from loss.

While the extent of integration between the two pieces of software is not clear, it appears the deal helps Mozy the most, as they now have a distribution point amongst CA’s userbase. The offer available to CA customers is nothing more than Mozy’s typical 2GB free offer.

Backup Google Docs in the Cloud with Gladinet

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

GladinetGladinet has a solution to backup your Google Docs to virtually any location in the cloud, including Amazon S3, EMC Atmos, and Box.net, using their Cloud Desktop backup software. It’s easy to use: just enter your Google Docs account information, choose a backup location, and then specify how often you want the backups to be done.

Backup Google Docs

Working with Google Docs makes a lot of sense: you can access your files from any Internet enabled device, and you don’t have to back anything up because the files are not on your local computer. But as we’ve seen before, cloud-based storage isn’t immune to disaster.

Vodafone PC Backup

EMC and Decho have been partnering with service providers lately, to expand their product reach. The most recent relationships announced have been with McAfee and China Telecom.

McAfee Online Backup

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

McAfee Online BackupMcAfee logoAs reported back in May, McAfee has released their online backup solution, powered by Mozy. The official announcement comes from the Mozy blog.

So why would someone chose to buy the $59.99 / year McAfee product over the $54.45 ($46.29 with promotional code) Mozy service?

Perhaps users may be more familiar with the McAfee brand, or already have McAfee’s antivirus software installed, making the online backup service an easy add-on (using the antivirus software as a distribution channel).
