Legal Customers using Mozy Pro More Than Doubles

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Law firms looking to save on IT costs in the growth of electronically-stored information while gaining many security benefits are turning to MozyPro for their backup needs. Backups of this data are so important, the American Bar Association (ABA) added it to their Member Advantage program last year.

These days, everyone is looking to save money and improve operations, without sacrificing services. In 2006, amendments were made to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure regarding the “good faith operation of an electronic information system” (uscourts.gov). While there has yet to be an instance where a court punished a party for accidentally deleting data, sanctions have been awarded when a party destroyed electronic data in a willful manner. MozyPro for legal backups safeguards law firms against electronic document destruction, whether accidental or purposefully.

At the same time, MozyPro for legal customers can help law firms save money. When Joseph Booth founded his own law firm, The Law Offices of Joseph W. Booth, he found choosing MozyPro over an on-premise backup solution gave him a 92 percent savings in backup costs.

Mozy is easy to use, affordable, and provides me peace of mind in knowing that the information critical to my business is safe, secure and accessible–no matter what.

AT&T Announces “Synaptic Storage” – Storage on Demand

Monday, May 18th, 2009

AT&T announced a new product for their business customers: “Synaptic Storage“. With “Synaptic Storage”, customers will be able to specify their storage needs & policies through a Web-based portal. The service automatically scales storage space up or down as needed, with users only paying for the amount they use.

Mozy‘s parent company, EMC, provides the technology to give AT&T users the flexibility to store, distribute and retrieve data through the Internet via a service named Atmos.

The service will be deployed in AT&T Internet data centers in the US in the third quarter. Although the service will start out in the US, the data will be accessible at any time, to any customer location, by using a variety of Internet-enabled devices (such as laptops, smart phones or other handheld devices).

McAfee choses Mozy as Online Backup Partner

Monday, May 18th, 2009

McAfee, the number 2 computer security company, plans to team up with Mozy‘s parent corporation, EMC, to offer online PC backup services in the second half of 2009. Similar to Mozy’s Home service, McAfee plans to offer consumers unlimited Web-based backup for personal computers for $50 to $60 a year.

This move by McAfee is a direct resonse to Symantec’s previously announced Online Backup service. This move shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone: a few years ago McAfee beta-tested a backup service that they had hoped to launch, but that service was never brought to market. Instead of reinventing the wheel, McAfee chose to partner with Mozy.

Earlier this year, HP learned how difficult it is to run their own online backup service, and the troubles overcame their “Upline” backup service. In the online backup world, currently dominated by Mozy and Carbonite, McAfee learned from HP’s mistake, when they chose to not build their own service.

Decho Doubles Number of Mozy Healthcare Customers

Friday, May 8th, 2009

Decho Corporation, an EMC Company (NYSE: EMC), today announced the number of healthcare organizations using its industry-leading MozyPro® online back up solution to protect patient information has more than doubled in the past year. Mozy™ is the most trusted online backup solution for consumers and businesses.

Many health care offices are switching the storage location of patient records from the file room, to the computer. This change is primarily the result of a federal government led initiative to digitize health care records. As this shift takes place, there is a growing need to monitor the security of these records since their confidentiality is a top priority.

Mozy has been able to fill this need and reduce many health care centers data backup costs at the same time. Physician’s offices, Dental practices, ambulatory surgery centers, and more have found that MozyPro can help them not only meet HIPPA (Health Information Privacy and Portability Act) requirements, but also protect their patient information in case of a natural disaster (fire, flood, etc), burglary, and of course, hardware failure.

As more and more health care practices follow the trend and digitize their records, online backup providers like Mozy will continue to play a large role. This will allow for patients and providers alike to feel secure about the storage of this delicate, and very private information during this exciting transition.

Further information about how Mozy protects the valuable digital files of healthcare providers while reducing backup costs can be found at www.mozy.com/healthcare. Use promo code HEALTHCARE10 to receive 10% off your initial MozyPro purchase.
